Kawangware businessman who was captured in a viral video on social media badly assaulting his female employee has been charged at the Kibera Law Court.

Robert Kennedy Mathenge Kariithi was on Monday charged before Kibera Chief Magistrate Ann Mwangi where he denied the charges.

The court heard that the accused person assaulted Levins Achieng Oginga on February 22 in Kawangware Market Dagoreti Sub-County within Nairobi County.

He denied the charges and through his lawyer, pleaded with the court to release him on a lenient bond terms saying that he was a law-abiding citizen and not a flight risk.

In the same court, the complainant’s lawyer who was watching brief urged the court to request for a pre-bail report to be brought to court before the accused is granted bail.

He further cited the rising cases of gender-based violence and the employer-employee relation between the accused and complainant which would endanger the life of the complainant if the accused is released on bail without a detailed pre-bail report.

The prosecution through Ms Kitili supported the reply and urged that a pre-bail report be issued.

The court, however, granted him a cash bail of 20,000 with an alternative bond of Sh50,000.

”The court finds that the offense was bailable and the investigation officer in the case did not filed an affidavit to warrant issuance of pre-bail report as requested by the plaintiff’s defense, I hereby grant him a cash bail of 20,000 or a bond of Sh 50,000 with the surety of the same amount,” ruled Hon.Mwangi.file

She directed that the matter proceed for a mention after two weeks.
